Birds which are ringed/banded
and then are either re-captured or found dead away from the original
location are known as recoveries. Recoveries of ringed birds further our
studies of bird migration, adding to our knowledge of migration routes
or flyways. They also help to identify areas which may be of
conservation concern because of their importance to migrating birds as
stopover or wintering areas.
