North West Norfolk Ringing Group Objectives

Objectives are to initiate and stimulate original research especially on species that have not been well studied in this region and these have included Snow Bunting Plectrophenax nivalis and Wheatear Oenanthe oenanthe. The Group has worked with many of the conservation bodies in this area including the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds ( RSPB), and has strong links with the University of East Anglia with several of the Groups projects providing the opportunity for student and graduate participation.  Research into the effects of human disturbance on a population of Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula and Avocet Recurvirostra avosetta chick survival have been undertaken at the request of the RSPB. Our colour ringing projects have enabled research, in some cases by non ringers to be undertaken. This work has usually been carried out using  visual aids such as telescopes or by using video recording. By these means some aspects of flock dominance, hierarchy and also foraging behaviour have been studied.  Full details of these studies can be found in our Research Pages
