Starling Sturnus vulgaris Back to Recovery maps

In autumn large numbers of Starlings begin to arrive from Europe mostly in October and November, sometimes in late September. Vast numbers can be seen flying along the Norfolk coast in a westerly direction. These originate from Fennoscandia, the Baltic States, Germany, Russia and The Netherlands. In Norfolk we captured and released birds previously ringed in Europe (red circles) and some that we ringed were retrapped in Europe (blue circles).
